Introducing the TechCast Compy Ratings!
Alright, so people ask me all the time what type of computer equipment they need to buy. I try to be as concise as I can be when giving the answer, but sometimes I just can’t seem to pull that off very well. I tend to blabber on and on for a while before getting to the point.
So, I’ve come up with a system. Everyone seems to like little ratings given to products, movies, and pretty much anything else on the market. Whether it be a two thumbs up, four stars, or whatever, ratings make it easy for people to compare products.
In the computer world, we’ve got more products than I care to think about, but I try to make some of them easier for you to understand with the TechCast Weekly podcast. So I thought that I would start doing some product reviews here on the site and come up with a way to let you know what products will deliver the best performance for the best pricing. Notice how I didn’t say anything about being cheap. Sometimes you get lucky and find a good bargain, but most of the time you have to pay good money to get good product.
Therefore, in the spirit of ratings systems around the globe, I present to you the TechCast Compy Ratings!
You’ve seen this little guy around the site for a long time now. ![]()
Now you’re going to see a lot more of him.
That’s my little friend, Compy. He’ll be helping me out with the ratings and letting you folks know what the best computer hardware, software, books, printers, digital cameras, and more are on the market today.
I’ll review different categories on different criteria, but Compy will help to wrap everything together in simplicity. Here’s an overview of the Compy Awards system:
- 5 Compys -

- The best. Absolutely. Positively. When you see five of these guys sitting next to a product, you have only one question to ask yourself, "Why don’t I have one of these things already? Give me one now!" - 4 Compys -

- Not the best, but still pretty dang good.
- 3 Compys -

- The Average Joe’s average choice for average performance and average pricing. Decent performance and pricing, but nothing to write home to mom about. - 2 Compys -

- OK, we’re getting to the bottom of the barrel here. Generally, these items will be low-end, budget bargains that offer you enough performance to get by with. But don’t expect a lot out of them. - 1 Compy -
- When you see only one Compy next to an item, you should have only one question to ask yourself, "Why in the world did I buy one of these things? Give my my money back!"
And that’s it! I hope this will help you in making a buying decision on any one of numerous products. Stick around, things are going to get interesting!
